Are you plagued by scratches on your stainless steel sink? They can be unsightly and bring down the overall look of your kitchen. This article provides a solution for removing them.

Chrome Polish Method

  1. Buy chrome polish. Visit the local hardware store or special cleaning area of a supermarket or department store.
  2. Follow the directions on the bottle in terms of amount usage and application. Use the polish directly on the sink.
  3. If needed, repeat until scratches buff off.
  4. Wipe off the chrome polish with a damp sponge.
  5. Finish off with a little bit of elbow grease. Give it a really good scrub down, then rinse.
  6. Let sit 3-5 minutes.
  7. Wipe off with dry rag. Check out your gleaming new, scratch-free surface!

Abrasive Pads or Sandpaper Method

  1. If you have the right kind of stainless steel finish, sandpaper or abrasive pads might do the trick.
  2. If you have continuous long grain Hairline finish, try using grit 80-120 abrasive pads or sandpaper and sand along the grain of the minor scratch to remove it. This is less likely to be effective on deeper scratches or other stainless steel surfaces.

Tips

  • Be aware that "brushed stainless steel" is already deliberately scratched for the sake of the effect. No point trying to undo what is already a style statement!
  • You could also call the manufacturer for a cleaning product suggestion; some sinks might have specialized requirements. There is a range of specialized stainless steel sink creams available on the market.

Things You'll Need

  • Chrome polish
  • Rags
