How to Disable "OK Google" Voice Search on Android

This wikiHow teaches you how to disable the OK Google feature on Android phones. "OK Google" is the voice prompt that Google's voice assistant responds to which allows you ask questions or say commands using your voice. You can disable OK Google and still use Google's voice commands, but you'll need to press a button to activate Google's voice assistant manually.


  1. Open the Google app. It's the white app with a multi-colored "G" in the middle.
  2. Tap . It's the three-lined icon on the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap . Tap "Settings" next to the icon with the gear in the second section of options.
  4. Scroll down and tap Voice. It's about halfway down the page in the "Search" section.
  5. Tap "Ok Google" detection. It's the second option from the top of the "Voice" settings menu.
  6. Tap the switch for "Say "Ok Google" anytime" to the 'OFF' position .
    • You may also need to turn off "While Driving" if that option is listed.
