If you like key lime pie, you'll love this liquid version! A delicious combination of key limes, pineapple juice, and vanilla flavored vodka, it will bring back memories of time spent in the Key West – or encourage you to visit!

Steps

  1. Cut the lime in half. Then, cut a wedge from one side of the lime.
  2. Cut down the center of the wedge. Place the lime wedge on the rim of the glass, and then run the lime wedge around the rim to leave juice on the rim. At this point, do not leave the lime wedge on the rim.
  3. Pour some sugar on a plate and run the rim of the glass in the pile so the sugar can stick to the lime juice on the rim.
    • Using a wide rim glass allows for more sugar on the rim. The sugar rim helps the taste of the drink and so it is important that with each sip the drinker has sugar left on the rim to taste.
  4. Place the lime wedge back on the glass rim for decoration.
  5. Squeeze the rest of the lime into the glass for juice.
  6. Measure out 4 ounces (120ml) of pineapple juice (about 4 shots worth) and pour into glass.
  7. Measure out 2 ounces (60ml) of vanilla vodka (about 2 shots worth) and pour into glass.
  8. Stir, add ice, and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • Sugar
  • 1 lime, or 2 key limes – using key limes gives the drink a slightly different taste
  • 4 oz (120 ml) pineapple juice
  • 2 oz (60 ml) vanilla vodka
  • Ice

Tips

  • Since you still have some vanilla vodka left over, why not add a shot to your favorite dark beer. Another great drink.
  • Use colorful baking sugar from the baking area of your local store to make the sugar more appealing.
  • Taste and adjust portions of lime, pineapple juice, and vodka to your own tastes. This drink can be difficult to strike just the right proportions.

Warnings

  • Be careful to avoid the juice hybrids (for example, orange-pineapple juice) that are common these days – the orange juice in such a hybrid would totally over powered all the other flavors in the drink.

Things You'll Need

  • Glass, preferably a wide-mouthed martini glass
  • Measuring cup, shot glass or a good eye
