Frozen grapes are a delicious, low-calorie, and low-fat treat that can make even the die-hard ice cream lover's mouth water. They are a refreshing snack on hot summer days, and are a snap to prepare. Outside, their skin is hard, but the inside is like sorbet.

Steps

  1. Rinse the grapes. It's always a good idea to rinse any fruit before you eat it. Washing fruit helps to remove pesticides that are dangerous to your health. Place the grapes in a colander or bowl or on a plate and pat them dry with a paper towel. Give them at least 15 minutes to dry as much as they can.
  2. Place the grapes on a piece of wax paper, a cookie sheet, or a plate. You can also use Tupperware or another resealable container. Spread out the grapes as much as you can so they don't touch each other. This is done so that the grapes don't stick together when they freeze. Even after draining and drying them, any excess moisture can turn the fruit into a giant fruit block.
    • If you want your grapes to be extra sweet, then you can sprinkle them with a bit of sugar, stevia or artificial sweetener before you put them in the freezer.
    • If you want to get creative, you can make "frozen grape skewers" by placing the grapes on a skewer or a few skewers before putting them in the fridge.
  3. Freeze the grapes for at least 4 to 5 hours. The more grapes you have, the longer it will take to fully freeze them. You can freeze them overnight, too, but you don't want to freeze them for too long or they may lose some of their delicious flavor and texture.
  4. Remove the grapes from the freezer. Take them out and place them in a bowl and get ready to snack away.
  5. Enjoy your grapes. If you want to be more inventive than simply eating the grapes as they are, there are a variety of ways to spruce up your ordinary frozen grapes:
    • Use them as ice cubes for a refreshing glass of water, or a mimosa or another alcoholic beverage.
    • Place them in yogurt and rice pudding to add an extra pop to your snack.
    • Sprinkle them with sugar for an extra-sweet treat.

Tips

  • Rinse the grapes and let them air dry on a paper towel for about a day. Then pick the grapes off the stems, and pop them into a resealable bag.
  • Red grapes have more nutritional benefits and freeze better than green, though some people do prefer the green ones frozen. Try both.
  • Try freezing both red and green grapes, then mix them together in a bag. It makes this healthy treat more interesting.
  • Use frozen grapes to keep your glass of wine cold without watering it down.
  • Skip the wax paper (be green) and the cookie sheet. Just shake well to get nearly dry and put in resealable bag. Lay the grapes flat in the freezer so they don't bunch and are 1-2 deep. They freeze fine like this.
  • If you want to make grape Italian ice, just puree a bowl of grapes, then freeze it for a few hours.
  • After draining the grapes, wrap about 6 to 7 grapes in a plastic wrap (do this for all the grapes in the batch). Then, put them all in a resealable freezer bag.

Warnings

  • Do not feed these to small children, as grapes can be easy to choke on if not sufficiently chewed before swallowing.
