How to Create a Character Sheet for Your Story
If you are creating a character for your book or short story, you may want to make a character sheet or bio for them to help move the character's development along.
Steps
-
Get a blank piece of paper or notebook and think about the character. What does he/she look like?
-
Start by writing down basic information about the character. This should include things like their name, gender, age, personality, and appearance.
-
Now get into some more details. Add family, friends, pets, and hobbies. If they go to school, add favorite and least favorite subjects, teachers, etc.
-
To go with the story, add what their challenge is or their part in the book.
-
Now for the best part. Flesh out your character by giving them likes, dislikes, pet peeves, favorite music, anything you can think of!
-
Don't be afraid to add too much. You never know when you might need something on the paper.
Tips
- Just have fun with it.
- If you prefer a more thorough or objective approach, then find a list of character traits and rate each trait based on the character's adherence to it. (Generally applies, sometimes applies, almost never applies, etc.)
- Be as creative as you want! If you want to go all-out give them a fake email if you can!
- Add or draw a picture if you can.
- Base a character off of someone or something. (Great characters sometimes turn out to be different versions of real people. Just don't be creepy with it.)
Warnings
- If you do give them an email, don't write the whole thing, just in case.
