How to Make Lavender Scones
A scone is a British snack and usually served with tea. Some put butter on top or jam. They are lightly sweetened, if lavender is added, it takes on a change of color. United States scones are drier and larger, and typically sweet.
Steps
-
Preheat the oven to 425ºF/220ºC degrees.
-
Grease and then sprinkle flour on a large baking sheet.
-
Sift flour and baking powder together in a large mixing bowl.
-
Mix in the butter until the mixture looks like fine bread crumbs.
-
Stir in the sugar and lavender (save a small amount to sprinkle on top of the scones before baking).
-
Add a sufficient amount of milk to make a soft and sticky dough consistency.
-
Place the dough on a floured surface. Cut the dough into 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick rounds with a cookie cutter.
-
Place the scones onto the greased and floured baking sheet. Brush the top of each scone with a bit of milk and sprinkle with the reserved lavender and sugar.
-
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until it is a golden brown color.
-
Serve with rose petal jam and cream.
