Ever wished you could get that gorgeously tousled, beach babe hair? Well, now you can! Try this DIY salt spray for beautiful beachy waves - plus it practically costs pennies!

Using a coconut oil and sea salt spray

  1. Fill an empty squirt bottle with water from a tap.
  2. Add two tablespoons of sea salt. Then pour in 1 tablespoon of coconut oil.
  3. Shake the ingredients inside the bottle until mixed together. The spray is now ready for use.

Using a coconut conditioner and sea salt spray

  1. Add some sea salt flakes to the spray bottle. It is recommended that you grind the flakes between your fingers a little first, as this will help them to dissolve faster.
    • Depending on how little or much water your bottle will hold, add a suitable amount of salt: as a rough guide, use about 4 oz for every 8oz water. You can use more for an even more beachy look.
  2. Add the conditioner. Use about 1/2 a teaspoon for every 8 oz water, or a little more if your hair is naturally very dry. However, don't use too much, otherwise it will not mix properly with the water.
  3. Add essential oil, if using. If you want, throw in an essential oil of your choice. These are great for sensitive scalps, and your hair. Or, you could use cold chamomile tea instead, which will lighten your hair over time. Use about 1 teaspoon.
    • Always check the contra-indications of essential oils before using, just to be safe.
  4. Add the water and mix. Fill the bottle with water, screw the cap on tight and then shake to combine all the ingredients. Now you're ready to apply!

Using a coconut oil and gel spray

  1. Assemble the ingredients. You'll need:
    • 1 cup warm water
    • 1 tablespoon sea salt
    • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
    • 1 teaspoon hair gel.
  2. Rinse out the spray bottle.
  3. Pour all of the ingredients into an empty spray bottle.
  4. Close the top tightly. Shake to combine.
  5. Spray on your hair. Scrunch to form beachy waves.

  • If you do use this technique to get wavy hair, do not use it too often, as the sea salt dries out your hair.
  • Spray the sea salt spray at least one inch (2.5cm) away from your natural roots.
  • If applying after you've come out of the shower, towel-dry your hair first. For an extra-defined look, apply the spray, then plait (braid) your hair while it dries.
  • If you've had the spray in your hair for a day and you don't want dry hair the next day, try using a bit of hair oil to moisturize your ends. Do not apply this to your roots.

  • Do not get the spray in your eyes.
