How to Make Owl Pine Cones

Steps

1. Go outside and find a pine cone in the size you want your owl to be.

   • If the pine cone is closed, leave it in a warm room or on top of a stove to encourage it to open up. Let it cool off after it has opened.
2. Cut out felt pieces in different colours. Cut out pieces for the face (a round shape), eyes (2 almond or circle shapes), beak (a diamond or triangle shape), wings (wing shape) and any other details you'd like, such as a few feather tufts.

   • Use brown pipe cleaners for feet/claws. Cut these to the right length as well.
3. Glue the felt pieces onto the pine cone. Use strong glue to ensure that the pieces stick firmly in place. Let the glue dry completely.

   • Also glue the claw pieces in place, at the base of the owl.
4. Attach the owl to a candle, to help it stand upright. After it has dried completely there might be a little stem attachment left on the bottom of the pine cone. Find a small candle and make a big enough hole for the little stem to go into (you can put blu-tack/poster tack in the hole first). After that, glue around the bottom to it keep the stem firmly embedded in the candle.

   • If the pine cone doesn't have a small stem piece on it, take the wax out of the metal candle holder and place the owl in there instead, then glue around the edges.
   • This step is optional but helpful if you'd like the owl to stand upright once made.
