How to Make a Cola Cake

Adding cola to a cake increases its sweetness, richness and moistness. This cakes makes a tasty and sweet dessert or an ideal treat for an afternoon tea.

Making the Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
  2. Spray the baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Combine the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking soda) in a mixing bowl.
  4. Mix the cola, margarine or butter, and cocoa in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
  5. Pour the liquid mixture over the flour mixture. Mix well.
  6. Beat the eggs and mix in. Add the milk, vanilla and marshmallows. The batter should be thin in consistency and the marshmallows will float to the surface.
  7. Bake the cake for 35 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean.
  8. Make the frosting before the cake cools.

Making the Frosting

  1. Mix the cola, cocoa, and margarine or butter in a pan and bring to a boil.
  2. Add the vanilla and powdered sugar.
  3. Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread the warm frosting on the cake.
  5. Sprinkle chopped nuts over cake, if desired. Once the frosting has set, the cake is ready to serve.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cola
  • 1 cup margarine or butter
  • 3 tablespoons baking cocoa
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 ½ cup miniature marshmallows

Frosting

  • 6 tablespoons cola
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, chopped, optional

Tips

  • Store in an airtight container.

Warnings

  • Using diet colas with artificial sweeteners is not a good idea. Artificial chemicals become more toxic when cooked or heated.
  • Use care when removing the cake from the oven. The oven is hot.
