Itchy acne, especially on your face, can be extremely annoying. However, they affect almost everybody. Itchy acne is caused by many things, but the usual reason is that your skin is dry. Other things that could possibly trigger itchy acne are heat, UV light, excessive sweating, and allergies. However, there is a way to prevent annoying, itchy acne. If you want to do just that, here are some tips to help you.

Steps

  1. Avoid scratching your acne. If you scratch your pimples, you can severely damage your skin. Doing this will also make your skin itch more. It's hard to resist itching, but you can try some different things to help you resist the urge to scratch your acne.
    • Put a bandage on your acne areas, if possible. You will be unable to reach the spot if you try to scratch it, leading to you knowing not to scratch the area until it heals. You could try putting lotion on the affected area, before you put the bandage on.
    • Take an oatmeal bath. This can relieve all types of itchy skin, not just acne, so this one is a helpful tip to carry with you.
    • Choose an organic moisturizer to apply on your acne. Moisturizers with additives and strong fragrances can actually do more harm than good.
    • Do not pop your pimples. Doing so can lead to permanent scarring and increase the risk of infection to your skin.
  2. Switch to gentle skincare products while fighting itchy acne. Some of your products may contain ingredients that are drying out your skin, which is one of the main causes of itching.
    • Avoid wearing perfume as well. It has extremely strong fragrances and is known to irritate skin.
  3. Don't wash the affected area more than once or twice a day. If you cleanse the acne more than twice a day, especially with harsh soaps and moisturizers, you can cause the skin around it to dry out even more, resulting in more itching and the potential for the acne to worsen. This includes showering too, so think again if you need to take three showers a day.
    • If you really must cleanse the affected area more than twice a day, try to avoid touching the area that you have the itchy acne on.
  4. Wear loose-fitting, soft clothes. Tight fitting and coarse clothing can trigger itching, so you may want to skip the skintight leggings. Instead, opt for soft, low-friction fabric, like cotton, and wear something like an oversized shirt and soft sweatpants.
  5. Take some time to destress. Stress is a huge trigger for acne, so take some time to calm your nerves and take some deep breaths every day. It could be as simple as meditating or doing a full spa day every Saturday, but it's mostly up to you.

Tips

Warnings

  • Don't pop your pimples. This will lead to permanent scars that look even worse than the actual acne.
  • If the acne is on your face, don't wear makeup to cover it up. This will irritate your affected area and worsen acne breakouts.
