Vegan pizza, while very out of the ordinary for many people,It is a healthy and delicious meal. Many people think "How can you have pizza without cheese?!" and dismiss the merits of vegan pizza without a second thought. Give this pizza a try though and you won't even think twice about that missing cheese.

Pizza Dough

  1. In a bowl combine 1/2 c flour with the yeast, sugar and salt. Warm the water and oil and add it to the dry mixture. Do not add the water when it is too hot! Warm to the touch is perfect.
  2. The dough should be about the consistency of pancake batter. Stir in the last 1/2 c flour.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and begin gradually kneading and adding flour until the dough is no longer sticking to your hands. Knead for several minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Oil the mixing bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn the dough to coat it as well. Set it in a warm place to rise for 25 minutes.
  5. After rising place the dough on a cookie sheet covered in parchment paper. Spread the dough with your hands in to a circle or if you want to get creative, a square or heart.

  1. Two excellent sauces to put on vegan pizza are plain dijon mustard or caramelized onions. If you use dijon just spread the unbaked crust with mustard.
  2. If using caramelized onions be sure to make them in advance as they take about an hour to cook and once you've caramelized them chop them finely before spreading them on the dough.
