Ahh, love letters. A cute and classy way to talk to your beloved. But...a Gothic beloved? Read on to avoid making any mistakes that can make it or break it with just one letter...

Steps

  1. Use humor: Typically, Goths are intelligent, inspirational and deep creatures who learned to appreciate both sides of life: the bright side and the dark side. A common stereotype of Goths: depressed drug addicts who sleep their lives away and dip their face in a can of black pain and...you get the point. But this is all untrue; Goths are happy and cheerful people who have a heart and a sense of humor. Keep this in mind when writing your letter.
    • They love a sense of humor and class. Look up the Addams family movie and find some quotes by them and use this kind of humor in your letter. Try some black humor too.
  2. Write a draft first. In pencil too. This way you can go back and make changes until it is just right.
  3. Use details: Be nice, original, and use a lot of detail. (But not too much!) Write about what she likes and what you like about her. Tell her how meaningful she is to you. Bring back the past - write about only the ups, not the downs. Tell her that no matter what you will never forget those moments, etc.
  4. Quote quote quote! Lyrics from her favorite bands and songs, lines from her favorite movie or book, or quotes from Edgar Allen Poe, Anne Rice and Shakespeare.
  5. Include a poem or a song about her. However, if writing isn't your thing, copy down a small poem from a classic or her favorite poet.

Tips

  • Using a similar medieval theme, try rolling up the letter like a scroll (unless you definitely want to use an envelope - see below) and tying it with either scarlet or deep purple ribbon - especially velvet. Very romantic.
  • If you want to go the extra mile, try to lightly fray or burn the edges or the page or lightly brush coffee over the paper and crinkle it a bit for that medieval theme (also, soaking the paper in tea has the same effect).
  • Have a good sense of humor! She will laugh if it makes you laugh.
  • Give it a nice scent that she likes, like vanilla or chocolate. Avoid your cologne and fruity smells, though. Try to find a fake black rose or a dead, dried one to give her with it, too.
  • When copying a poem, make sure it is not too long. Also make sure it describes something about her or about the love you share.
  • Put the letter on red paper with black writing or black paper with red ink if you want.
  • Draw a picture if you can draw. Paintings are even better!
  • Put it in a dark envelope and seal it with a dark medieval like sticker.
  • If your handwriting isn't the best, type it on the computer in a legible font that still looks nice and classy and elegant. Avoid Chiller, Comic Sans MS, Courier, Times New Roman and Arial, however.
  • Some blood-red (fake or real. just make sure they're not too dry and crumbly.) rose petals add a nice touch, and depending on her taste (which you should have a general idea of) a few silvery moon/star sequins.

Warnings

  • Do not write anything depressing or about death in the letter, that is extremely stereotypical.
  • Don't write "I understand you" because it is somewhat overused and doesn't let her "get to you" as in it creates a wall in between you too. Try to be as descriptive as you can! She'll feel like you're pointing out the differences, and it might sound a bit like it's some sort of mental problem that she can't heal from. It's not.
  • Don't go into marriage and fantasy things like that...she may get a little weirded out.
