Skin care is important as it involves methods in which care is given to the largest barrier of our body. Not only is it important for our physical health, but it's also important for our mental health, since having good skin increases the confidence in the way an individual looks. Using natural ingredients to maintain good skin is essential, as it avoids the exposure to chemicals from products that can lead to breakouts and irritation. This wikiHow article will show you how to make a contour and highlight face mask to boost the brightness and health in certain parts of your face.

Making a Contour Mask

  1. Rinse your face with water and remove your makeup. It is important that you assure that you have a clean base as makeup may interfere with the final result and pigmentation of the masks.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of instant coffee grains into a bowl. The coffee will help with reducing inflammation and redness, as well as serve as a good exfoliator.
  3. Add ⁄4 teaspoon (1.2 mL) of cinnamon or turmeric into the bowl of coffee grains. Cinnamon serves as an antioxidant and supporter of blood flow and turmeric helps reduce redness, therefore either option will work as they both result in a dark staining and you have the ability to choose which benefit of the ingredient you prefer.
  4. Add ⁄2 tablespoon (7.4 mL) of cocoa powder. Cocoa powder heals damage caused by UV exposure and increases the dark pigment of the mask.
  5. Use a fork to mix the powder substances thoroughly or sift using a strainer. Do this to evenly distribute the ingredients and avoid clumping.
  6. Measure about 3 tablespoons (44 mL) tbsp of coconut oil in another small sized bowl. Warm the ingredients in a microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds. Assure that it has completely melted before combining it with the other ingredients.
  7. Allow the coconut oil to cool and add to the powder ingredients. The coconut oil will serve as a good moisturizer and liquid component for the mask.
  8. Stir the ingredients thoroughly. Using a fork, stir your ingredients until you have received a thick paste that can be easily applied to your face.
  9. Perform a patch test. Apply a small amount of the face mask on side of your face or on your arm. This is done to assure that no unnecessary reactions will occur and is especially important if you have sensitive skin.
  10. Apply the coffee mask on the hollow areas of the face with a brush. Add the mask to your cheekbones, temples and jawline.
  11. Allow the contour mask to dry. The time the mask takes to set varies depending on how thick the mask was made.
  12. Remove with warm water. Gently remove the mask from your skin using lukewarm water and a wash cloth.

Highlight Mask

  1. Add2 tablespoons (30 mL) of Greek yogurt to a small bowl. Greek yogurt will work towards moisturizing your face and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Mix in 1 tbsp of honey with the Greek yogurt. Honey will help hydrate your skin and tighten your skin's pores.
  3. Add dried or fresh rose petals into the honey and yogurt mixture. The rose petals will release rosewater that can brighten skin and soothe irritated skin.
    • Crush the rose petals before you add to the Greek yogurt and honey mixture.
  4. Perform a patch test. Apply a small amount of the face mask on side of your face or on your arm. This is done to assure that no unnecessary reactions will occur and is especially important if you have sensitive skin.
  5. Apply the yogurt mask onto the high points of your face with a brush. The high points include the cheekbones, forehead, bridge of nose, chin and cupid’s bow.
  6. Allow the highlight mask to dry. Depending on the consistency of the mask, it should take approximately 15 minutes for the mask to set.
  7. Remove with warm water. Gently remove the mask from your skin using lukewarm water and a wash cloth.

Tips

  • If you have sensitive skin, avoid using the cinnamon powder and substitute it with turmeric powder.
