  12. Listen to Google. As much as many might not like this, you do need to listen to what Google tell us when trying to gain links. The search giant might not be everyones best friend all of the time, but if you take heed of their messages, you can only come up smelling of roses! Ultimately, you want editorial links; links that have a real reason to be there and not just added as part of a link exchange or simple directory.

  • Link building takes time and effort. However, you don't want to build links just for the sake of it. Build links that have a reason to exist; something that will benefit others and where possible, keep your link profile as natural-looking natural, so as not to draw attention to what you are doing.
  • The best link is one that is gained without asking, but we all know that isn't always possible, so take the time to listen to tips and tricks and try to find sites that are also in your niche.

  • Avoid article spinning gimmicks and other "get rich quick" schemes that promise to build a slew of backlinks in a short amount of time. These links are generally not the kind of high-quality links that the search engines will consider to promote your website in the rankings.
  • Concentrate on niche related links.Building up links which are not from same niche or category will harm your site.
