The clique books by Lisa Harrison have spawned great admiration for the character of Massie and her clique friends Alicia, Dylan, Kristen and even Claire. If you want to have your own pretty committee like Massie Block, the suggestions provided here will help you to become a successful leader and to have the tightest group of friends in town.

Forming your clique

  1. Find the perfect girls to be your exclusive group of friends. A good amount of girls is three to six. There should be an alpha, beta, and other loyal chicks. After you find your perfect girls, befriend them, and invite them to a sleepover.
    • Do not have more than six girls in the group; after that, it is not very manageable as a clique.
    • Make the sleepovers weekly (or if your parents don't allow that, monthly), and you should have a chatty group of friends.

The dress code

  1. Dress well. If you are on the wealthier side, wear designer labels. If you don't have that much money, shop at good basic clothing stores or vintage stores for designer looks.
    • Buy pretty, eye-catching jewelry. Get a signature piece of jewelry and gradually update every month or so. Have great accessories.
    • Always carry around a stylish purse that has your money, gum, wallet, cell phone, lip gloss, and notebook.
  2. Create cool hairstyles. If you like your natural hair color, stay with it. To change things up a little, get highlights. A drastic cut or complete color change can be pretty shocking, so really make sure you think it would look good if you decide to do it.
    • Wash your hair every day, with good shampoo and conditioner. Hair sprays, cremes, and mousses are great to use too.
    • For hairstyles, wear your hair half up, with a headband, or in a messy but preppy bun.
    • Buy cute but not tacky clips for your hair, and express your style with them.
  3. Add makeup. Massie uses lip gloss, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and concealer. Since Glossip Girl isn't real, find your own signature brand. Buy a few different kinds of makeup and alternate each day.

Hanging together

  1. Have a cool carpool to school. Have one of your siblings, parents, or drivers (if you can afford it) drive you to school. On the car ride to school you can dish gossip, play games like "Would You Rather," or simply study for an upcoming test.
  2. Use technology. Really have the works! Massie has an iPhone, iPod, iMac, Palm Pilot, and a TV. If you want something but your parents won't buy it for you, save up and get their permission to buy it with your own money. It's really worth it!
  3. Be on social media. Have a Facebook, AIM, iChat (if you have a Mac), an email, and accounts on other social media websites.
  4. Make your room into a hub. Your room should be a place where people - including you - want to hang out! Pick a signature color, and make most of the things in your room that color (don't go overboard, though!). Buy a cool bedspread, lamps, bean bag, and a mannequin like Massie.

Tips

  • Treat your "bunch" to little presents, food, and shopping together.
  • Be confident: "Others do it right; we can too: let's do it!"
  • If you have to be strict (and set boundaries), be nice.
  • Don't start fights: make peace after a disagreement (even if you have to disagree ).
  • Never wear the same outfit within 2 weeks (2 tops + 2 skirts = 4 outfits).
  • Do not exclude members of your clique. Invite all the clique or nobody at all on trips to stores, sleepovers or other places.
  • Be respectful to adults when around them, then they'll trust you!
  • Be careful of the people you choose for your "clique". Avoid dull, or stuck up, snobs.
  • Keep your grades up. If you are not smart, your clique will not think that you have what it takes to be their alpha and they may have someone else take your position or even worse, they might kick you out of the clique for good.
  • Develop a signature sense of humor.
  • What happens in the clique stays in the clique. Do not share details about anything you do with your clique or anything your clique says with anyone else.

Warnings

  • Avoid snobbery among the "cliques": You don't even know each other, but you may 'despise' one another; so, let down razor-wire barriers and be popular (in essence: friendly) with others.
  • Some people will ignore you, won't help and may try to hinder efforts.

Things You'll Need

  • Shopping money
  • Makeup
  • Cute clothes
  • A cool room
