As an avid reader I find a lot of authors with potential. Myself, having writing as one of my hobbies, find that sometimes people need to open their eyes to new writing opportunities.

Steps

  1. Open your mind. Be prepared to read through various sources of the new and old and think for creative possibility.
  2. Do your homework. When writing about a specific subject or genre, it's important that you thoroughly research to find reliable sources and facts. Failure to do this could even lead to you unknowingly duplicating a plot and could lead to copyright business.
  3. Talk about it. Tell close friends or family the general idea in your head before you pen it, that way you can gain structured criticism too improve and chip your work to a fine art.
  4. Widen your ranges. Always think after writing something, 'Is there another way I could write this?'. For example, instead of, 'He thought about it' you could restructure it to write a more effective sentence like, 'He pondered about it in agonizing silence'.
  5. Don't overdo it. Every writer struggles from, what is known in the creative literary world, as 'Writers Block'. Allow yourself breaks and make sure you give up sometime just to think about ideas instead of instantly writing them, who knows, you might end up with a better idea all together.
  6. Link ideas. Always plan out your story to successfully link subjects or points, otherwise you may end up with a very confusing and unappealing story-line.
  7. Evaluate. Read over every paragraph. Make sure everything you write is to the best of your ability.
  8. Vary it. If it's a journal or diary from a person's point of view, don't let your writing turn into a recurring cycle.
  9. Let your imagination take hold. The best writers always have a fresh and clear mind to successfully express what they envision. If you cannot express this, then seek help from a friend.

Tips

  • Be aware of your mood. Don't let your outside work interfere what's in the pages.
  • Take breaks. Don't overwork yourself- it can lead to stress disorders, let alone dulls down your work.
  • Drink water. It keeps the mind refreshed and clear.
  • Enjoy yourself. If you don't enjoy it, then it can lead to a dull tale. Be prepared to express your enjoyment in the beauty of literature.
  • Avoid copying others. It's great to reel in inspiration but don't take it so far as to more or less duplicating it.
  • Don't involve personal issues. That is unless your writing an autobiography or something documenting these issues.

Warnings

  • Be wary of copyright if you intend to publish your works. You don't want to end up with an illegal masterpiece.
  • Always make sure you take breaks. Like I said above, it can lead to stress disorders and dullness.
