A hard flip is the combination of a front side pop shove-it and a kick flip. Most find this trick easier to perform when the board passes more between the legs rather than under the feet.

  1. Master kick flips and front side pop shove-its before attempting this trick.
  2. Place you rear foot on the tip of the tail, like you would for a lie, but slightly closer to the heel side.
  3. Your front foot should have the same angle as you normally would have it for a kick flip, but it may help to move your front foot slightly closer towards the middle of the board.
  4. Face your torso about 45 degrees away from the nose.
  5. When you pop, pop the rear of the board as hard as you can.
  6. Your front foot should make a kick flip motion, except it requires significantly more effort this time.
  7. You need to jump straight up almost as high as you can.
  8. Catch the board with your front foot, and bring your rear foot back in.
  9. Land and roll away.

  • You'll need to jump as high as you can, as this jumping motion is unlike most flip tricks.
  • You do not need to learn front side flips prior to learning this trick.
  • You'll need to make room between your legs for the board to pass through. Keep this in mind when you are kicking your front foot out.
  • This trick also requires you to kick and pop significantly harder than you would for most other flip tricks.
  • You can best influence the board spin with your rear foot closer toward the heel side.

  • Be sure to keep your back foot sucked up super high.
  • Most people are concerned about getting "sacked" by the deck. Just be sure when you pop, you kick flip super hard, but only front out medium (NOT hard).
  • Time the jump by:
    • Firstly, going up
    • Secondly, super slightly backwards
    • Thirdly, diagonally forward
    • Or 180
