Due to the economy, many people have had to tone down their shopping habits. This article will give you tips on how to save money and still get what you want when shopping.

Steps

  1. Set a budget. Decide how much you are willing to spend on items. Try taking all cash or a gift card so you aren't tempted to go over your budget.
  2. Look for coupons. Some stores send out newsletters or flyers with coupons to cut out. Also, there are some websites which have coupons you can print out and give to the person at the cash register for a discount.
  3. Shop online. Many people find it easier to save money when shopping online. Most times when you order something online, there is a place to put in a code for a discount. You can find websites online with these codes to enter in. Shopping online comes with the added convenience of having your purchases shipped to your house.
  4. Sign up for emails. Most stores have a system of sending out emails with news of sales and coupons. Signing up for these is easily done in store, and emails can be stopped anytime.
  5. Get a store card. Some stores offer cards on which you earn "points" every time you spend money in that store. These points can be cashed in for rewards and discounts.
  6. Stay up-to-date with the store. Check in often to find out when they're doing some sale such as 40% off the whole store, 25-75% certain sections, 2 pairs of skinny jeans for $15, and stuff like that. Stores do those a lot. You can call the store to ask what's going on right now.
  7. Find price matches. Save ads from other stores. If you find a price at that store that is lower than your stores' price, You can bring the ad to that store and get it for the lower price!

Tips

  • When shopping for clothing, if you see something that you really like, it is wise to leave it there. If you are still thinking about the article of clothing the next day, then you should go back and get it!
  • It is usually easier to save money when shopping alone then with friends. Your friends are more likely to tell you to "buy it, or you will regret it."
  • Sometimes, different branches of the same store have different prices for some things.
  • Keep a coupon book to keep track of coupons.

Warnings

  • Some of the store cards are actually credit cards, and will make you pay an interest rate. Be careful when signing up for these, and make sure to read the fine print!
  • Some things are put on sale because they are broken or there is something wrong with them.
