Have you ever wanted to fly around the Comet Observatory as Mario? But didn't know how? Then read on!

Steps

  1. Collect 40-50 Power Stars and open the Upper Level domes. That means you have to collect the Grand Star in Bowser Jr's Lava Reactor. 5 Grand Stars Total - Collect all enemy bases and energy spikes EXCEPT Bowser's Galaxy Reactor.
    • Mission: King Kaliente's Spicy Return. Beat King Kaliente before opening the Gate. If done correctly (with dodging meteors), you finally get the "Grand Star" and open the gate and the Garden.
  2. Open Gateway Galaxy's second and final mission. That doesn't mean you chase down those bunnies anymore! You can immediately go to the place where you bumped into Rosalina for the 1st Time!
  3. Talk to Rosalina, then the red Luma. She will not give you the little Luma this time, this time she'll trust Mario/Luigi to take the Red Star. This will transform you to red and black.
  4. Take the Red Star. Spin in mid-air to fly!
  5. Collect all the Purple coins. Beware! Stay safe! It is more likely to encounter enemies and thorns while having 100 Purple coins.
  6. Take the Red Power Star. You know it will earn a hungry luma right where the gate HUD is.
  7. Fly around the Comet Observatory. Once you rescued the Red Power Star, you have the ability to have a power up in the Comet Observatory.
    • Fly around the Comet Observatory, You can go from the Observatory to the gate.
    • You can even long jump, backward somersault or do a triple/multiple jumps.
    • Don't fly from the observatory to the trial planet, use a Trial Launch Star, or touch any enemy or hazard.

Tips

  • If you touch an enemy or thorns, that does not mean you return to regular Mario.
  • There is one by the garage and one on top of the bedroom (where the red luma is).
  • Take as much time as you want. There is no time limit like there are in later levels that involve collecting Purple Coins. (That includes Space Junk Galaxy, Ghostly Galaxy, Gusty Garden Galaxy, Gold Leaf Galaxy, and Toy Time Galaxy)
  • Other Power-ups (Return to regular Mario not listed in booklet)
    • Boo Mario - Touch an enemy, take damage, touch light, touch water, or use a Launch Star
    • Flying Mario - Use a special Launch Star or wait until Red Star wears off

Warnings

  • While using Flying Mario in the Comet Observatory, be careful. You'll return to regular Mario if you touch a trial launch star.
