To turn off message notifications on an iPhone, Open Settings → Tap on Notifications → Tap Messages → Toggle “Allow Notifications” to off.

Open Settings from your home screen. -

Toggle “Allow Notifications” to the left. This is done by tapping the green slider on the right and will turn off all Message notifications. -

Modifying Message Notifications

Toggle off "Show in Notification Center". This will disable Message notifications from showing up in the center when you access it by swiping down from the top of the screen. -

Toggle off "Badge App Icon". Doing so will disable the notification that pops up next to the app's icon on your home screen. -

Toggle off "Show on Lock Screen". Doing so will disable notifications from popping up on the lock screen while your phone is not in use. -

- Turning on “Preview Messages” allows you to see some of the text without fully opening it.
