If your computer is used by others, your internet privacy may be one of your topmost priorities. Google Chrome's incognito mode doesn't keep records of any browsing and downloading activities. Though it's easy to switch to Incognito mode in Google Chrome, you may forget—thus, compromising your privacy. There's an easy way to open Google Chrome in incognito mode by default.

  1. Pin Google Chrome to the taskbar. Click the Start ( or ) button. Right-click "Google Chrome" from the apps list and click Pin to taskbar.
  2. Open the Chrome taskbar shortcut properties. Right-click on the Google Chrome icon on the taskbar. A menu will appear showing your bookmarks, most visited websites etcetera. Right-click Google Chrome and select Properties.
  3. Append -incognito to the shortcut target. Once the window opens, you'll find a text box next to "Target:" with a file path in quotes. Add -incognito to the very end of it, outside the quotes, leaving a space right before.
    • For example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" -incognito
    • *You can restore your previous setting by removing -incognito from the Target text box and saving it.
  4. Save your changes. Click on the OK button at the bottom. A confirmation box may appear. Select Continue and type the password if necessary.

  • The same method can be used to configure the Start menu shortcut.
  • To quickly open a new Incognito window, use the Ctrl+⇧ Shift+N shortcut.
