How to Make Homemade Baked Cheese Crackers

Impress your friends and family by baking these simple baked cheese crackers. This is a great finger snack food for events and parties. It only takes about two hours to make.

Making the Cracker Dough

  1. Mix cheese, butter (softened), and salt.
    • To soften butter, place butter into a microwave for a few seconds.
  2. Mix until clumpy.
  3. Add flour and mix.
  4. Add 1 tbsp of ice water and mix.
    • This should begin to feel like dough.
  5. Add another 1 tbsp of ice water and mix.
    • If it still does not feel clumpy enough, add another tbsp of ice water.
  6. Mix until clumpy.

Chilling the Cheese Crackers

  1. Place dough on a sheet of foil.
    • Approximately 12 inches by 18 inches foil. Non-stick foil is recommended.
  2. Separate into two circular piles.
    • Flatten to about 1-inch (2.5cm) thick of dough.
    • Cut the foil down the middle.
  3. Wrap piles into foil and chill for 30 minutes.
    • Make sure it is fully wrapped. Place in the refrigerator.

Baking the Cheese Crackers

  1. Take out both dough piles and flatten thin.
    • Try to flatten evenly and to about a couple centimeters.
  2. Cut into 1 in by 1 in squares and poke a hole in center.
    • It is recommended to use a ruler as a straight edge and for the measurements.
    • You can use a toothpick to poke holes with.
  3. Set the crackers on a baking sheet.
    • It is best to use foil.
  4. Bake at 350ºF (180ºC) for 13 minutes or until slightly brown.
    • Depending on your oven, you may want to leave in longer or shorter depending on the color of the squares.
  5. Remove from the oven with oven mitts on. Allow to cool, then enjoy!
