Your goal is to make multiple paper airplanes using an assembly line. The number of people in your assembly line is your choice and the number of planes you make is up to you. Start a contest by competing against the teams to see who can produce the greater number of quality paper airplanes! This game or competition can run from 10 minutes to hours of fun.

Steps

  1. Set yourself and five others up in a line or around a table. Place a piece of paper next to the starter.
  2. Have the first person fold the paper "hotdog" style. The long edges will stay together and crease the opposite side.
    • This will make a fold down the middle.
    • Then open paper back up.
  3. Pass the paper. Give the folded piece of paper to the next assembler after the first assembler has completed their step.
  4. Fold down the top corners into middle. Should make a 90-degree angle along the center of the paper.
  5. Pass the paper. Give the piece of paper to the next assembler after the last assembler has completed their step.
  6. Fold the top point down. Take the point and place it one inch from the bottom of the edge of the paper. Crease the paper with a finger.
  7. Pass the paper. Give the piece of paper to the next assembler after the last assembler has completed their step.
  8. Fold the top corners. Fold down the top corners down into middle. This will make a 90-degree angle from the middle of the page to the edge. There should be a small triangle under the fold.
  9. Pass the paper. Give the piece of paper to the next assembler after you have completed your step.
  10. Fold the bottom triangle up. Take the top of the triangle and fold it over so the folded edge is even with the 180-degree angle.
  11. Pass the paper. Give the piece of paper to the next assembler after the last assembler has completed their step.
  12. Fold along the center crease. Make sure the previous folds are on the outside as the assembler folds the plane in half.
  13. Pass the paper. Give the piece of paper to the next assembler after the previous assembler has completed their step.
  14. Fold the wings. Fold the two flaps down to make the wings. The hypotenuse (longest side) of the triangle should be an even line with the base of the plane after folding it.
  15. Fly the airplane. Hold the plane with a thumb and finger on the triangle of the base of the plane. Softly push forward and let it go.
  16. Repeat as often as desired during the set competition time. Decide the winner by the amount of paper airplanes produced, or perhaps decide on quality as well as amount.

Tips

  • Use a new piece of paper for each paper airplane.
  • Use a thinner piece of paper - the faster it will fly.
  • Fly from a higher place - It will fly a longer distance.
  • Fold in an aerodynamic way for smoother flying.
  • Point upward when flying.
  • Do not throw hard.
  • Place hands on middle/rear of the airplane when throwing it.
  • Run your fingernail along creases to make them secure.
  • Folding the back end of the wings will make it spiral.

Warnings

  • Avoid throwing at eyes.
  • Do not throw at others.
  • Do not fly the paper airplane outside during rain or snow, water will ruin the paper airplane.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper
  • Multiple people
