How to Streak Your Jeans With Bleach
Here's a great way to add something different to your jeans:
Steps
-
Plan ahead. This is a pretty "rapid" procedure with a few extra steps. You'll need to have your technique down.
-
Set up this project outdoors.
-
Gather your jeans, a bleach pen, rough brush, rubber gloves, apron, clothespins and water hose. Bring them over to the clothesline.
-
Place your materials on a grassy area.
-
Soak your jeans with the hose and wring them out fairly well.
-
Put numerous folds in your jeans. Fold them vertically, horizontally or scrunch them into a random shape. Creases will not be reached as thoroughly by the bleach.
-
Put on the rubber gloves and apron.
-
Using the bleach pen, streak the jeans in a random, whisking motion.
-
Using a rough brush, gently pull through the lines. Pull vertically, horizontally or randomly.
-
Unfold the jeans and pin them "quickly" onto the clothesline. Bleach needs to be rinsed within three minutes of its application, to stop the bleaching process.
-
Rinse the jeans thoroughly with the water hose.
-
Repeat the process, if desired.
-
Let your jeans dry in the sun to enhance the fading process.
Tips
- Bleach is biodegradable.
- Try using slightly diluted bleach in a glass jar. Whisk with a child's paintbrush.
- Omit soaking the jeans, at the beginning of the procedure, or using the rough brush for different effects.
Warnings
- Never mix bleach with ammonia or vinegar!
- Use caution with liquid bleach.
