If you have been working on Windows Vista, you would have noticed that you don't always get administrator access, even though your account type may be "Administrator". The reason is that the true Administrator account is hidden by default. This article will tell you how to enable it.

Steps

  1. Click on the Start menu.
  2. In the search box, type "cmd" (without the quotes).
  3. When the program appears at the top of the list, right click and select, "Run as administrator".
  4. When the command prompt opens up, type the following code exactly as it appears:net user administrator /active:yes
  5. You should get a message stating that the command completed successfully.
  6. Now type exit and hit enter.
  7. Now log out, and your Administrator account will be active!

Tips

  • To disable the account again, type in:net user administrator /active:no
  • Set a password for the Administrator account right after enabling it, since otherwise you'll have a highly privileged account with no password
  • This method can be used to hide or unhide any account. Just replace the "administrator" with the desired username.

Warnings

  • Disabling all the accounts will render logging onto Windows through the normal method useless. You have to be very careful.
  • NOTE: Enabling the true administrator account (and then working on it, of course) will make your computer more vulnerable to security threats and will make your computer unsafe.
