Want to work for Disneyland? The pay is decent, but the hours vary significantly. Here are some helpful tips on how to make a great impression for that interview and get the job.

Steps

  1. Make sure you have lots of availability time in your schedule, especially around summertime. This is when big holidays are coming up and the park is super busy. You will have to work lots of hours and on holidays. The Disney company really looks for people who are on the clock 24/7. If that schedule doesn't work for you, maybe Disneyland isn't the right job to apply for.
  2. Don't expect a call right after you apply. Disneyland will keep your application on file for 6 months. The sooner you can work the more likely they will call you. Be patient.
  3. Be sure to select two alternate roles on the application. They say you can choose the same role for all slots if you only want to work that role, but Disneyland really likes how you can be open to different areas in the park like working attractions, food vendors, or merchandise sales. Disneyland is a big company so they can usually find a job suitable to your interests.
  4. Fill out the application. Filling out the application is easy. Just work history, hours you can work, pay rate you want, etc. Then there will be a 20-30 minute test to take. Don't be nervous. This test is a simple personality test. But, each question is timed, so make sure to go with your gut when answering!
  5. Know about unions. Disneyland employees belong to a union. You will have money taken out of your first paycheck to pay union dues. So make sure you're willing to let the union take some percentage of your paycheck.
  6. If you successfully pass the application part, Disneyland will call or send you an e-mail when you want to book your interview. Lots of times the calendar dates will say full. Find one that will be open. Remember, lots of people apply to Disneyland. So expect more than 10 people to be at the day of your interview. Disneyland is too busy to take one person at a time. You really need to make yourself stand out from everybody else on that day, but generally, Disneyland does not do group interviews.

Tips

  • Just stay calm, stand up straight, and don't be nervous. Everyone is really friendly at the Disney company. If you're friendly they will be friendly.
  • Just in case, bring two forms of documents like a valid driver's license and social security card. Disney won't take photocopied IDs. You may need to fill out extra paperwork beforehand.
  • The interview will be in the Casting Center, located in the Team Disney Anaheim building (the big yellow one!) behind Disneyland.
  • Arrive about 10 minutes early, and be mindful of traffic around the Resort!
    • Once you enter the backstage area, make an immediate left turn towards the parking structure. There will be a parking lot on the left; this is where you park. Tell the parking Cast Member that you have an appointment at Casting and they will direct you.
  • Be polite and smile!
  • While you are waiting in the lobby, just look happy, and DO NOT play around on your phone. Find brochures or something in the Casting lobby to entertain yourself, or watch the move they're playing! Sometimes they show a video with helpful interview tips and role descriptions.
  • When you go to your interview dress very nice. Dress like you're going to church. No sneakers, sandals, jeans, shorts, t-shirts, tank tops. If you have tattoos cover it up; if you have body piercings, take them out. Don't wear anything Disney like a Disney shirt or pins. Disney doesn't want to see how big of a fan you are. They want to see how you can work in the company. Disneyland looks for a simple, clean look. Remember this is a family park. You need to look clean cut. First impressions matter.
    • For the girls don't apply heavy makeup. Just a little mascara, light lipgloss, and a simple hairstyle. Please make sure your hair is a natural color. Make sure you have nice nails. Get a french manicure on the day of your interview. Don't wear silly hoop earrings. If you're going to wear earrings, make sure they are the size of a dime. Take it easy on the jewelry. Wear a nice blouse that shows no cleavage. You can wear black/gray skirt or pants. Wear flats like ballet flats. If you're holding a purse, make sure you are holding it in the arm you don't use. You will be shaking people's hands. No perfume! Someone may be allergic to it and too much of it gives off an unwelcoming smell.
    • For boys no scruffy beard or mustache past your lip area. Keep sideburns halfway above the earlobe. Keep nice neat hair. Lay off the heavy cologne. Keep your nails short and neat. You can wear a nice dress shirt with a tie. Wear nice slacks and dress shoes. Wear a belt with your pants. Button up your shirt well. No one wants to see your undershirt.

Warnings

  • The Casting Center is located backstage, behind Disneyland Park. It can be easy to miss the turn from Ball Road if you're unfamiliar with the area, so make sure to map it before you go!
