How to Control Sugar Cravings
If you want to know how to control your sugar cravings follow these simple steps!
Steps
-
Eliminate all carbohydrates for at least 2 weeks.
-
Eat three meals each day, along with snacks (like eggs, nuts, cheese, peanut butter on a whole grain cracker, etc). Cravings for sweets can be caused by too little protein in your diet.
-
Control your portion size. After the first few weeks you will find that you are satisfied with less food.
-
Drink lots of water. Keep water at your desk or on hand during the day and in the evening.
-
Supplements are often helpful in controlling your cravings. Be aware that it can take up to three days for the supplements to begin to work. Give it time.
-
Brush your teeth when the temptation for sweets creeps in.
Tips
- Green tea has been shown to be helpful in stabilizing blood sugar.
- Make yourself move. Even moderate exercise can help to control your appetite.
- Substitute sugary snacks for healthier ones that taste just as good, pretty soon you will be craving those healthy foods instead of the sugary ones!
- Stay determined and don't give up even if you splurge and get something sugary, just calmly bring yourself back to the main goal and try again.
- Never eat in the dark. People tend to eat more in dim lighting.
- When drinking juice, choose lower glycemic juices like apple juice and pear nectar, and dilute them with water. A serving of juice is very small, four ounces. An eight-ounce glass of juice is too much.
Warnings
- Caffeine can create problems with blood sugar. It can create a desire to overeat later.
- Never drink soft drinks.
